Montgomery County History

Established in 1851, Montgomery County is located in southwest Iowa and was named after Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general killed in 1775. The county seat, Red Oak, serves as the county’s governmental and agricultural hub. As of the 2020 census, Montgomery County has a population of 10,330 residents.
