Cass County History

Established in the early 1850s, Cass County is located in southwest Iowa and was named in honor of Lewis Cass, a U.S. senator and presidential candidate. Early settlement included Mormon pioneers who established communities in the area during westward migration. Agriculture has long played a central role in the county’s development.
