Madison County History: Madison County is a county in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,548. The county was named after James Madison, the fourth president of the United States.

Madison County was formed in 1846, from sections of Pottawattamie County. The current Madison County Court House was opened in 1876.
