Clarke County History
Established in 1846, Clarke County is named after James Clarke, Governor of the Iowa Territory. The county seat is Osceola. The first courthouse was a two-story wood structure, replaced in 1883 by a brick courthouse. The current courthouse was completed in 1956 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. As of the 2020 census, Clarke County has a population of 9,748.
