Carroll County History
Carroll County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,760. The county is named in honor of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the longest-living signer of the Declaration of Independence. Carroll County was formed on January 15, 1851, from portions of Pottawattamie County. The first courthouse was built in 1858 in Carrollton, and the county seat was later moved to Carroll City (now Carroll) in 1869. A fire destroyed the courthouse in 1886, and the current courthouse was completed in 1965. You can find additional historical information on Wikipedia.
