Marion County History

Established in 1845, Marion County is located in southern Iowa and was named after Francis Marion, a brigadier general in the American Revolutionary War. The county seat, Knoxville, developed as a regional agricultural and industrial center. As of the 2020 census, Marion County has a population of 33,414 residents.
