Jones County History: Jones County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2010 census, the population was 20,638. The county was founded in 1837 and named after George Wallace Jones, a United States Senator and member of Congress. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 577 square miles (1,490 km2), of which 576 square miles (1,490 km2) is land and 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2) (0.2%) is water.
