Clay County History
Clay County was established in honor of Henry Clay Jr., who died in the Mexican–American War, and son of American statesman Henry Clay.
It is part of the Spencer Micropolitan Statistical Area and is home to the long-running Clay County Fair.
The county’s earliest newspaper, the Peterson Patriot, began publishing in 1880.
