Chickasaw County History

Established in 1851, Chickasaw County was named after the Chickasaw Nation. Early settlement began in 1848, and the first county seat was located in Bradford. In 1857, the seat was moved to New Hampton. The first courthouse was built in 1865 and later expanded before being destroyed by fire in 1880. A stone replacement was constructed in 1881 and expanded in the early 1900s. The present courthouse was completed in 1929. As of 2020, the population is 12,012. (Source: Wikipedia)
