Head the Appraisal Department at Whitaker Marketing Group
Are you passionate about agriculture and land valuation? Whitaker Marketing Group is looking for a knowledgeable and certified Farmland Appraiser to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll play a critical part in supporting our sales, auction, and farm management operations by delivering accurate, timely, and trusted appraisals of agricultural properties across the Midwest.
Your leadership and expertise will help landowners, investors, attorneys, lenders, and estate planners make informed decisions rooted in real data — and you’ll be part of a team that’s trusted to get it right.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct independent, USPAP-compliant appraisals of farmland, pasture, CRP, and other agricultural assets.
- Research market data, analyze comparable sales, and evaluate factors that influence land value (e.g., soil types, productivity, drainage, location, improvements).
- Prepare detailed, well-documented appraisal reports for a variety of client needs, including sales, lending, estate planning, and taxation.
- Collaborate with our sales and farm management teams to provide valuation insights that support client success.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, attorneys, bankers, and other industry professionals.
- Stay current on land trends, USDA reports, local zoning changes, and market influences impacting farmland values.
What We’re Looking For
- Certified General Appraiser license (required).
- Experience appraising farmland and rural properties, preferably in Iowa and surrounding Midwest states.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments.
- Familiarity with appraisal software, GIS tools, and USDA/FSA data systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of local land markets, soil productivity, farm leases, and government programs (CRP, CSR2, etc.) is highly valued.
